Fort Weaver Road

10.09.25

Along the side of old Fort Weaver Road,

is a stretch of plumeria trees.

The flowers are in full bloom this time of year.

I run by them at 5 in the morning.

The sprinklers are on.

Headlights fly by.

The winds carry the smell of plumeria

and the history of Ewa's sugar mills.

Built from the hands of plantation workers,

Ewa Beach still houses generations

of Hawaiian residents and tourists.

The red dirt is buried in pavement and turf-grass.

The plumeria falls onto the side of the road.

Slowly, the white decays,

and will return to dirt.
